Another implementation of the computeSpectrum method coming as an oldschool equalizer device, displaying frequency peaks. The panel is only updated every 46 milliseconds, since I have the feeling, that the spectrum isn’t computed more often internally as the properties rightPeak and leftPeak from a SoundChannel.

Btw: I found this dj-mix somewhere in the internet by DJ Saleem, called Bass Lounge. After a while there is too much singing for me. Nice music anyway.

UPDATE: redesign of the device.

Love your work and your blog Andre. I’m guessing as you haven’t provided a link to the source on this one, you’re not ready to share. I would love to check it out tho. Either way thanks for sharing other code.

my favorite squarepusher track too!

Andre,

After doing some experiments on Windows as well as Mac OS X, it appears that if you allow it to, the computeSpectrum will deliver more data/sec on Macs. This was done when comparing a simple visualizer I made published at 60fps and tested on both OSes.

I would assume this is a system-level implementation on the Mac and cannot be changed on the PC side to provide more granular data.

the song is squarepusher - beep street from the hard normal daddy album.. remember i played you some squarepusher the last time you were here, i knew you’d like that :D

Matt, how did you get this to work? I’m running OS X PPC and this analyzer doesn’t actually work - I get no sound and no image. I have 9,0,20 of the plugin installed and to date this is the only flash 9 swf that has failed to work.

Cool Antti!
Cannot wait for new music in Barcelona. See you these days.

André Michelle wrote...

Simon. I have no idea. This SWF has nothing new on board. What about the other spectrum experiments ?

Simon wrote...

Oh wow, somehow I’ve been running the Intel plugin on my PPC for a few months and NEVER noticed! It’s been working perfectly until this SWF. Have 9,0,16 for PPC and it’s working. Duh…. :P

Hello andree,
sorry but for this one I have nothing…
Nothing is displayed ( and of course I have the flash player 9 :D ) but I still have the sound…
Weird…
:?

hi zeflasher,

which minorversion do you have ? Which system are you running ? I think there is nothing in this code, which makes the flashplayer unhappy.

Hi André,

Sounds like Squarepusher to me. A long time ago there was an article on the Propellerhead (Reason) website explaining how to make drum tracks in this style. On another note, do you know what happened to Frank’s article about the 2048 sample magic in flash? The link has died…

Very nice. I’m working on a flash audio player for a web site that will feature bird songs. I’d love to include a spectrum display option of this type. Please contact me!

Does anyone know an approach to generate the whole waveform for an mp3 upfront, rather then as the sound plays. Similar to an audio editing program.

Nice………

Does anyone have an idea of how to generate/display the complete waveform of a mp3? All I can find are examples using computeSpectrum while the Sound plays…
