Based on this article I could rebuild the algorithm using the BitmapData methods and BitmapFilters, which is much faster than a AVM1 loop.

Joan Mira wrote...

Is it possible to do it with a full screen bitmap? The computer performance will be very bad, right?

Hi AndrĂ©, I see you used the Gamedev tutorial I wrote. Cool stuff! Back in 2000 I was more into Delphi; nowadays I’m mostly about Java and Actionscript Flash.
I’m working on a multi-touch screen application in which I’d like to re-implement my Water effect algorithm. I’d love to take a peek at your sourcecode!

Wow! This is one great little (pun intended) loop/sample drafting tool. :-)

Here’s what I made in 1 minute…

Copy-paste this into ToneMatrix to hear my tune:

Here’s an idea: Share your tunes! Here and on Twitter too.

Cheers!

FWIW, I have water code available from back in the day… 1996 or 1997 I think. The original is on my site:
http://toykeeper.net/programs/water/
Or you can get a slightly updated version from the SDL demo collection.

It’s similar to what the above article does, but uses 9 points instead of 5 (for smoother physics), allows the user to tweak physics parameters, and has extra effects or surface disturbance toys to play with.

Simply cool. pity it appears in small format. I have a screensaver of a fish aquarium which fills my screen from the bottom with a similar effect. Love yours.
